I shared the link What Progressives Don’t Understand About Obama by Ishmael Reed in the December 11, 2010 New York Times, and I commented:
Be that as it may, whatever factors edge the Obama administration rightward, the responsibility of progressives is to convince and organize public opinion to edge it leftward, toward democracy, civil and human rights, the common good, less imperialism, prudent and sensible regulation of corporations and financiers, protection of workers' right to organize unions, public single payer health insurance, and so on.
Obama is a pragmatist. He'd be more progressive if convinced by an organized mass movement that that would be pragmatic. An organized mass movement starts in our home communities with whatever opportunities for organizing are there within whatever time one can budget.

Comment re dinner at Santa Fe Capitol Grill
I had the stuffed acorn squash with quinoa, spinach, roasted peppers, corn, figs, almonds and orange fig sauce, plus a dark beer on draft recommended by the bartender. It was all good.
Sign spinning at the Santa Fe plaza
I stood on a corner of the downtown Santa Fe plaza 11AM to 4PM today, minus a half hour lunch break, holding a real estate sign. It was fun. I pretended I was in "Santa Fe Plaza: The Musical".
...: Sounds like it was a great day! Did you compose lyrics?
Brian Leekley: ..., no, but I did have that just before bursting into song feeling, like I was in a musical like Oklahoma! Characters included the fajita wagon man, the accordion player, the bass player, the gay bicyclists, the local with a ponytail who said "town square in Boston; here it's the plaza", and many more, plus hundreds of passers-by.

Listening, Breathing, or Glowing
Today I discovered three simple pleasures -- to imagine that my entire body is glowing, to listen with just curiosity to whatever I can hear, or to observe myself taking and expelling easy, deep breaths as my body signals the need. I've noticed that enjoying any one of those pleasures contents me and frees me from fretting, "What should I be doing?" I just breath, or listen, or pretend to glow, without worrying, and doing so, I feel content, and when a little impulse and thought comes, "Write such and such," or, "Put away the clean laundry," or, "Make your self a salad," or, "Say hi to that nice person," or whatever, I do that. Then instead of fretting what I should do next, I glow, breath, or listen until another little thought and impulse says do such and such. I've gotten quite a bit done today, with no fretting and much contentment.

I just finished reading
I just finished reading THE SPIRAL STAIRCASE: MY CLIMB OUT OF DARKNESS by Karen Armstrong. It's pretty good.
Elizabeth Warren seems competent and to have good sense
Elizabeth Warren seems competent and to have good sense. Has Congress provided the common sense laws and regulations for her to accomplish her job's purpose? Will voters put or keep politicians in Congress who share her view that excessive deregulation of Wall Street was not good and needs correction? Ask your local candidates about their views and look at incumbents' voting records.
Last evening at Poetry Night I kept dozing
Last evening at Poetry Night I kept dozing, overcome by drowsiness. Afterward I went to bed at 10:20PM and woke at 7:50AM, not counting waking a few times just long enough to adjust my blankets or use the bathroom. That's 9.5 hours. I wonder why that happened.

Having of late to frequently pull up my 38 waist pants
Having of late to frequently pull up my 38 waist pants, yesterday at the Salvation Army store I bought 3 pairs of size 36 pants -- 2 of khaki trousers and 1 of blue jeans -- that fit just right. I'm not dieting. I just cut meat and dairy almost entirely from my everyday diet.

Today the Periodicals Librarian and the Acquisitions Librarian at UI Law Library asked if I would continue my filing clerk job past August but at 10 hours per week instead of 20. I said yes. That'll give me rent money and more writing time. I'm pushing to get a novella done this year.

Yesterday afternoon and evening Sox and I got settled into our room. Most of the time Sox is out of sight, presumably cat napping, and comes out from time to time to get petted and his head scratched and rubbed. I didn't get around to clearing off the bed, so sometime past midnight I put the ceiling light off and fell asleep in the recliner easy chair.

Sox the cat came out of hiding
Sox the cat came out of hiding awhile ago, lay by me for a time on the arm of my recliner easy chair, used his litter box, and seems back to normal. Upon my seeing her work yesterday at Prichard Art Gallery
Upon my seeing her work yesterday at Prichard Art Gallery, Genevra Sloan (19245-2009) became one of my favorite artists, along with Kayle Rice, Edvard Munch, Morris Graves, and a few others who don't come to mind. Besides being well composed, her art has emotional impact, insight, and humor. Kayle is officiating at a memorial service at Unitarian Universalist Church of the Palouse today at 1PM.

Comment on someone's post "is in the market for some motivation"
Sit and do nothing. When the boredom becomes unbearable, out of inspiration will come a thought of Something(s) To Do. The whole process takes an instant. Boredom is the mother of invention.
Comment on someone's link to MSNBC article "People are happier, less stressed after age 50" by Rettner
More resigned to cruel fate is more like it. I used to worry about how long and in what style to wear my hair. Then I worried about how to stop it from receding and to make it grow back. Now I accept my baldness as irreversible and that my fringe hair will never again be brown and accept that the treadmill of the entropy of aging is inexorable (with healthy living and attitudes giving some respite) and that death comes soon enough to all. Why not choose to be happy in the interim?

Comment on Paul Krugman opinion piece in May 9, 2010 New York Times
Let's demand government of the people by the people for the people. A corporation is not a person. The government's first and foremost responsibility at all levels is to protect workers, consumers, residents, nature, and the earth, waters, and sky from amoral corporations that cause grievous and inexcusable harm caused by neglect and disregard of the common good.

For breakfast I 1st had an apple and later had granola with raw cashews and raw sunflower seeds and I snacked on pistachios and raw almonds. At lunchtime I dropped off my dirty clothes at the apartment and fed Sox the cat and went to the Co-op for spicy Thai noodle salad and broccoli salad. Back at the apartment I worked on my computer and on chores and napped

Yesterday I burned a crockpot meal
Yesterday I burned a crockpot meal in my rented room. I put a peeled and cubed beet, a few baby carrots and tomato soup to cover in a crockpot, put the cover on, plugged it in and set it to low about 10AM. About 8PM I ate blackened beets and carrots. Scrumptious.
Also I couldn't get my little refrigerator to get above freezing.

Yesterday Kayle and I divided the stuff
Yesterday Kayle and I divided the stuff in the front closet and hall closet between us; I took a car load to my rented room; took stuff to Recyclables Center and Salvation Army and filled the Sabaru gas tank; saw Kayle off to visit her folks in MI (she'll leave the Subaru at Spokane airport); helped at Moscow Food Bank; supped at the Co-op deli; tended Socks the cat; stayed the evening and night in my rented room.

Today I had a senior lunch
Today I had a senior lunch at 1912 Center, did laundry, did chores, napped, petted the cat, and did paperwork. At the Co-op I supped on barley soup and a chocolate ice cream bar and bought a few produce items. Back at the apartment I packed my shopping cart with overnight items, walking office items, and food items. Now I'm in my rented room for the night. I'll do a little writing, putting away, emailing, and FBing before bed.
